Methods

Methods used at Pro Leak Detection

Here at Pro Leak Detection we use the latest and advanced technology to conduct leak detection. Using our cutting edge technology we minimise any unnecessary damage to your property. Once the leak has been located we provide you with an indepth photographic report highlighting the root cause of the leak and the damage caused. This report can be submitted to your insurance provider if required.

Gas Tracing Detection

Our gas tracing method involves the use of a specialized tracer gas, an inert blend of 5% hydrogen and 95% nitrogen, which replaces water in the leaking pipework. When pressurized, this gas escapes from the leak and ascends through the floor, ground, or walls. The gas can permeate various materials, including concrete floors, timber, and different floor finishes such as tiles, laminate, and carpet. A highly sensitive probe precisely identifies the leak by detecting even minute traces of the gas, down to just a few parts per million. Gas tracing is applicable to all types of pipe leaks, including central heating, underfloor heating, mains, hot, and cold, providing a highly accurate means of locating leaks.

Our commitment to employing the latest leak detection techniques ensures that we can locate and resolve hidden leaks with minimal disruption to you and your home.

Acoustic Detection

The Acoustic Microphone is an exceptionally sensitive device designed to detect the sound of a leak escaping from a pipe. This device can effectively magnify the noise, especially when the system is drained down, and water is replaced with air, creating a distinctive and recognizable sound. Initially, it confirms the presence of a leak and provides an approximate location. Further refinement, such as calibrating the sound from two different positions, allows for precise pinpointing of the leak’s exact location. The Acoustic Microphone is versatile and applicable to various types of pipe leaks, including central heating, underfloor heating, mains, hot, and cold.

We take pride in employing the latest leak detection techniques, ensuring we locate and resolve issues with the least amount of disruption to your property.

Thermal Imaging

The Thermal Imaging Camera, also known as a Thermographic or Infrared Camera, enables us to identify and map buried and concealed hot, central heating, and underfloor heating pipes. By detecting infrared energy and converting it into an electronic signal, the camera produces a thermal image and performs temperature calculations. Abnormalities and suspect areas, such as heat patches are an indication of a leak. The thermal imaging results complement our other testing methods and equipment, contributing to the accurate location of the leak.

Our commitment to employing the latest leak detection techniques ensures that we can locate and resolve problems with minimal disruption to you and your property.

Moisture Detection

While signs of dampness and leaks are sometimes apparent through visible water damage, such as blistering or flaking paint, salt deposits, and bubbling or bowed floor finishes, dampness can often remain hidden. Our moisture meter serves as a crucial component of our leak detection equipment, enabling us to map all concealed damp and moisture. By creating a moisture map that distinguishes between damp and dry areas, we gain insights into potential causes of dampness and likely leak locations.

Our commitment to employing the latest leak detection techniques ensures that we can locate and resolve problems with minimal disruption to you and your property.

Endoscopic Camera

Our endoscopic camera, equipped with a small, flexible, and extendable design along with its own light source, enables visual inspections (including night vision) in hard-to-reach areas. This technology allows us to pinpoint and diagnose issues with minimal disruption. The camera is versatile, suitable for inspecting various void spaces, including stud and cavity walls, beneath suspended floors, and through ceiling light fittings.

Dye Testing

Dye testing is a simple process that involves adding environmentally friendly and biodegradable coloured dye to water to detect leaks, such as sinks, toilets and outside drains to track the flow of water to the affected area
